Various media outlets have reported about the death of the IS leader, but this information has never been formally confirmed.
The 45-year-old was the leader of a jihadist organisation, which controls territory in several countries.

Al-Baghdadi’s last appearance in public was in a video clip when he made a sermon proclaiming the establishment of an Islamist ‘caliphate’ in Mosul’s Grand Nuri Mosque in June 2014.
America said it thought the leader was alive in December.
