FATHER OF DEAD NAVY SEAL FROM ILLINOIS REFUSED TO MEET PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP AT CEREMONY

The father of a Navy SEAL killed during an anti-terrorism raid in Yemen is demanding an investigation into its planning and criticized the Trump administration for its timing. Bill Owens told The Miami Herald in a story published Sunday that he refused to meet with President Donald Trump when both came to Dover Air Force Base to receive the casket carrying his son, Chief Special Warfare Officer William "Ryan" Owens. "I want an investigation," said Owens, a retired Fort Lauderdale police detective and veteran. "The government owes my son an investigation." White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders told ABC's "This Week" on Sunday she believes the president would support an investigation. "I can't imagine what this father is going through," she said. "His son is a true American hero, and we should forever be in his son's debt." The younger Owens, a 36-year-old married father of three, was the

Seven potentially habitable Earth-sized planets spied around tiny nearby star

NASA Astronomers announcement today the discovery of an extraordinary planetary system: seven Earth-sized planets that could all have liquid water on their rocky surfaces. The planets circle a tiny, dim, nearby star in tight orbits all less than 2 weeks long. Although it isn’t possible today to say whether the planets harbor life, astronomers are excited because each planet’s orbit passes in front of—or “transits”—its parent star. What’s more, the system’s proximity to Earth means that answers to questions about whether the system is habitable may come in just a few years’ time with the launch of a powerful new spacex telescope. “If we are to find a biosignature, it may be in this kind of system,” says astrophysicist Nikku Madhusudhan of the Institute of Astronomy in Cambridge, U.K., who was not involved in the study. “In terms of transiting planets, this is as close to the holy grail as we’ve ever seen.” Team member Didier Queloz of the University of Cambridge says that t

Kings agree to trade DeMarcus Cousins to Pelicans

Sacramento for Cousins and forward Omri Casspi, league sources told The Vertical. The 2017 pick has lottery protection in the top three, which likely means the Pelicans will convey the draft choice to Sacramento this year. For the Pelicans, Cousins, 26, will join All-Star forward Anthony Davis to create a potentially devastating frontcourt pairing that could facilitate the re-signing of free-agent point guard Jrue Holiday in July. Cousins grew up in Alabama, but not he nor his agents wanted a trade, and both had been assured that it wouldn’t happen. With the trade, Cousins loses the chance to sign a five-year, $209 million designated maximum contract extension this summer. Cousins and his representatives were blindsided by the deal after being told repeatedly – even as late as Sunday afternoon – that Cousins wouldn’t be moved to the Pelicans in the deal, league sources said. Around the league there was surprise that general manager Vlade Divac would take such st

A suspicious pattern is emerging for how the White House handles its most controversial plans

The White House quickly denied an explosive AP report published on Friday morning that said the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was seeking to mobilize 100,000 National Guard troops to round up and deport undocumented immigrants across the country. "It is false," White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer  said, according to a pool report  . "It is irresponsible to be saying this. There is no effort at all to round up, to utilize the National Guard to round up illegal immigrants." "I wish you guys had asked before you tweeted," Spicer added. An AP reporter, however, replied that the wire service asked the White House for comment multiple times before publishing the report. The incident reflects an emerging pattern noted by numerous high-level politics  reporters in how the Trump administration handles its most controversial policy proposals: 1. Wait for a draft memo of a proposal to be leaked to the press. 2. Refuse to comment when

Mar-a-Lago neighbors oppose Trump’s planned helipad

Several Palm Beach residents expressed concerns at a town council meeting on Tuesday about noise and wind damage should the planned helipad at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago be installed. The helipad, already approved by the council and the National Trust for Historic Preservation,  would be built on the club’s west lawn , and would allow the president to travel from Palm Beach International Airport to his vacation home and club without a motorcade.  Secret Service would still mandate closures of the road near Mar-a-Lago, the Palm Beach Daily News reported, and the Southern Boulevard Bridge, too, would be shut down while Marine One is in the air. When residents complained that President Richard Nixon’s helicopter landings at his “southern White House” on Key Biscayne were disruptive and noisy, a platform was built 100 yards offshore, a resident said at the meeting. “I would like to remind everybody, including the people listening that Donald Trump is the president of t

Trump asks Israel to 'hold back' on settlements for a bit

WASHINGTON - President Donald Trump is asking Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to "hold back" on settlements for a bit. In a joint press conference with Netanyahu at the White House Wednesday, Trump responded to a question about his position on the expansion of Israeli settlements, asking Netanyahu to "hold back on settlements for a little bit." He says that a "two state looked like it will be the easier of the two," but says that if Israel and the Palestinians find an alternative that they like better, he'll support them. Trump also says that he'd like to see the U.S. Embassy in Israel moved from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, but noted that "we're looking at it with great care." It will be up to the Israelis and Palestinians to determine what peace will entail, and that peace, not a two-state solution, is the goal, according to the official, who was not authorized to publicly discuss the leaders' session before it too

Trump Talks Of Tweaking NAFTA After Meeting Canadian Prime Minister,Justin Trudeau

President Trump says he is looking at " tweaking " portions of the North American Free Trade Agreement that deal with trade between the U.S. and Canada. Trump spoke at a brief news conference after meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at the White House on Monday. Trump said U.S.-Canada trade is "a much less severe situation" than trade with Mexico . Trudeau pointed out that Canada is the largest trading partner of 35 states in the U.S., and that trade between the two countries is responsible "for millions of good paying jobs on both sides of the border." The two leaders also addressed immigration, where their differences are far greater. Trump praised Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly , whose department oversees Immigration and Customs Enforcement , and which last week conducted what it termed "targeted enforcement operations" that resulted in 680 arrests. Trump said he promised during the presidential c
